This 27" regal/glorified version of Saint Teresa of Avila statue features a striking hand painted face and details such as fingernails and eyelashes, cloth veil, golden halo, biretta (she is sometimes depicted wearing a biretta because she was given a doctoral biretta by the University of Salamanca. This was a recognition of her wisdom and writing, but it was different from the papal honor of Doctor of the Church) and a tiny hand-made rosary hanging at her waist. St. Teresa holds a book (The Interior Castle written by her) and a quill, enlightened by the Holy Spirit on her shoulder. In a mystical vision, Saint Teresa of Avila described an angel piercing her heart with a flaming arrow. This event is known as the Transverberation. She was so close to God that her heart was literally pierced with His love. Your statue will be touched to a 1st class relic of St. Teresa of Avila.
